Continuity mistake: When Hagrid is in Gringotts, in the shot facing Hagrid when he says, "Professor Dumbledore gave me this," his index and middle finger are on the side of the writing as he hands the letter to the Goblin Bank Teller, yet in the next two shots, Hagrid's thumb is on the side of the writing in front, as he hands the letter over. Continuity mistake: As Hagrid aims his 'umbrella' at Dudley while he eats Harry's birthday cake, in the side shot one end of the blue string (that was tied around the cake box) hangs down the side of the table, but when Vernon rushes Petunia and Dudley off, in this shot that end of the string lies on top of the table. Yet, when Hagrid says, "We're a bit behind schedule. Best be off," the string hangs off the side again. (00:17:30)

Continuity mistake: When Hagrid knocks down the door of the hut on the rock, in the close-up of the bottom door bolt and the piece of moulding, the bolt is clear of the latch on the moulding as they both fall. Yet, in the wide shot the bottom bolt is still within the latch on the moulding, as they both fall. (00:13:05)

Continuity mistake: At the hut on the rock, after the camera pans sleeping Vernon and Petunia, there's an overhead shot of Harry and Dudley downstairs. In this shot the hanging light, its switch and cable are visible over the stairs. Note, the cable switch hangs down low, parallel to the droplight. However, when Vernon and Petunia are at the stairs, and she turns on the light, the cable and switch are now perpendicular to the droplight, raised higher up parallel to the wood above. Continuity mistake: At his home, when Vernon says, "Fine day, Sunday. In my opinion best day of the week. Why is that Dudley?" in the close-up his arms are crossed right over left. In the next wide shot, as Harry answers, Vernon's arms are crossed left over right. Yet in the next close-up, his arms are crossed right over left again. (00:10:40)

Continuity mistake: In the Dursley's kitchen, as Harry walks by, on the table is Vernon's cereal bowl between the coffee pot on his right and OJ on his left, plus the tea pot is in the center of the table. In the close-up as Vernon says, "Yours? Who'd be writing to you?" the cereal bowl is missing and the tea pot is near his OJ. In the next close-up of the letter, the cereal bowl is back and the OJ is now on Vernon's right, near the coffee cup. (00:09:05)

Continuity mistake: When Harry lifts the mail from the floor at the Dursleys, the Hogwarts envelope flap is sealed shut and it has the red wax seal at the tip. Yet in the kitchen after he hands Vernon the other letters, Harry holds the Hogwarts envelope and though the red seal is on the back, the flap itself is NOT sealed shut. The wax seals differ in both shots as well. (00:08:45)

Continuity mistake: When Lucius Malfoy tries to curse Harry, Dobby stands directly in front of Harry and says, "You shall not harm Harry Potter!" In the side shot of Lucius Malfoy being thrown, Harry is behind Dobby to his right and the grass with its shadow is visible. Though, in the next back shot Harry stands behind Dobby to his left and the grass is again visible, but with no shadow. (02:25:30)

Continuity mistake: When Lucius Malfoy charges into Dumbledore's study, in the overhead shot as he says, "So it's true. You have returned," the diary is visible and it barely has a shadow on the desk, yet in the next shot, a close-up of Dumbledore, the diary casts a long shadow. When Lucius leaves, Harry begins to ask, "Sir...," in the overhead shot, the diary sits at the top of Dumbledore's desk, yet in the next shot, a close-up of the diary, it sits close to the bottom. Continuity mistake: During Lockhart's dueling demonstration, as Harry speaks Parseltongue, the snake nears Justin Finch-Fletchley, in close-ups and wide shots until after Justin asks, "What are you playing at?" students including Susan, Ernie, etc., on Justin's left, alter their positions in consecutive shots. Continuity mistake: After arriving at Diagon Alley, Hermione runs up to Harry and Hagrid. In the wide shot as she says, "Harry!" there is a man with a red hat, holding an owl, to Harry's left and hanging in the doorway are beads that are pulled to the side door frame. In the close-up when Hermione says, "It's so good to see you," as that man enters the store the beads are hanging straight down. The beads are pulled up again in the next wide shot when they say goodbye to Hagrid. (00:17:25)

Continuity mistake: When the Junk Lady says, "Well, what about this? This is not junk," as she hands Sarah the music box, Sarah turns in her chair, brings the music box close to look at it and the toys piled behind Sarah are higher than her head. After a close-up of the Junk Lady, in the next shot of Sarah, she is still bringing the music box a bit closer to her as she turns in her chair and the toys piled behind her are now only up to her shoulders. Continuity mistake: Harry is forced to stand beside Lockhart as he says, "Nice big smile Harry. Together you and I rate the front page," and the books are visible under the desk. In the overhead shot before it pans to Malfoy, the books are visible again, but the stacked black books' positions differ considerably. (00:18:40)

Continuity mistake: When Ben asks, "Where were you, man?" Thayer comes into his office on the right of the screen, as the shot cuts. Yet in the next shot after Tony answers, "Not at an orgy," Thayer just starts to walk in. (00:05:50)

Continuity mistake: When Ben walks into his office, just before he says, "What's up kitty cat?" in this shot in the background the woman with a black sleeveless top is leaning over a desk speaking with someone. In the next shot as Ben asks, "Where were you man?" that woman is standing by the coffee machine at the wall at the right. Yet, in the next shot, she's back where she was in the first shot. Continuity mistake: At his office, when Ben starts removing his tee shirt, three women, holding their coffee mugs, are huddled together glaring at him in two shots. After he flicks the ad with his fingers, two of those women are walking around at the other end of the office, doing their work. Yet when Ben says, "No way!" he turns and sees the three women, still huddled together holding their coffee mugs, glaring at his body. (00:06:10)

Continuity mistake: When Harry and Hermione run into Flourish and Blotts, Mrs. Weasley fusses and wipes off Harry's cloak. As she says, "Thank goodness. We'd hoped you'd only gone one grate..," she holds her purse a particular way and Ginny faces Harry, yet, in the next shot as she continues to say, "..too far," she holds her purse differently and Ginny now faces the other way. Continuity mistake: At the Weasleys, there is a close-up of Harry's face as he watches the fry pan being washed. In this shot as Harry walks away, twin 1 removes his jacket, while twin 2, wearing his jacket, closes the window atop the short door. In the next shot as Harry nears the clock, twin 1 takes his jacket off again. (00:11:00)
