Jaws (1975)

Character mistake: Captain Quint tells Hooper and Brody that the USS Indianapolis delivered "the Hiroshima bomb" in 1945. This is a myth that has persisted for decades and right up to the present. To prevent it from being lost in one piece, the Hiroshima bomb was actually delivered in pieces by various means to Tinian Island, where the parts were reassembled before it was carried aboard the Enola Gay to its target in Japan. The USS Indianapolis delivered only the detonator for the bomb. (01:29:00)

Suggested correction: This isn't a mistake since even you say it is a commonly believed and spoken of myth, so how is the captain repeating a commonly held myth a movie mistake? That would be like calling it a movie mistake if the character of King Arthur said the world was flat.

jimba

I agree with Jason, that it was correct for the character of Quint to have truly believed it. This was submitted as a "character mistake" which is appropriate. According to MM's guidelines a character mistake is "something a character wrongly states as fact... Something more significant than a minor error anyone could make."

Super Grover

Suggested correction: Quint likely believed the ship carried the bomb. It's unlikely he would know the details of an intricate plan to deliver the pieces separately. It may not have been factually correct, but it was correct for the character to have believed it.

Apollo 13 (1995)

Corrected entry: In the shot of Fred and Mary Haise at the Apollo 11 lunar landing party Mary is obviously pregnant. Apollo 11 was nine months before Apollo 13 and Mary is supposedly 8 months pregnant at the launch of Apollo 13. She does not have a baby during Apollo 13 and even if she was pregnant during Apollo 11 it would not have showed yet.

Correction: I disagree rather strongly with the statement "Mary is obviously pregnant" during the Apollo 11 lunar landing party at the Lovell house. We see Mary Haise in a few shots wearing her high-waisted white dress, and she does not look pregnant.

Halloween (1978)

Corrected entry: When Laurie goes to the Wallace residence to check on Linda, she enters the living room and a crew member's arm can be seen sticking out from the left wall.

Correction: That's not a crew member's arm, it's Laurie's moving shadow being cast on the wall as she turns twice.

Friends (1994)

Correction: Nope, you're mistaken. When we see Rachel at the apartment before she and Joey leave, she's not actually dressed yet. She walks out of her bedroom wearing her white robe, gold choker necklace, and blue flip-flops, while holding her makeup bag. Later we see Rachel at the Soapie Awards wearing the red spaghetti strap gown and she's still wearing it when she and Joey get home. Though I have to say, it's very complimentary to the actress that she even looks that great in just a robe.

Suggested correction: This isn't a mistake. That's him, under the water in the same pose he was in before he touched the water.

After watching the scene, the mistake is valid. When he's underwater, he's not in the same "pose." That would require him to be upside down and squatting. But that's not the pose we see him in.

Bishop73

We see Mace semi-kneeling and reaching out to touch the water when he vanishes, but his upside-down reflection is still in the exact same calm position even when he's gone, and in the next shot we see Mace under the water right-side up, with his arms reaching up to the surface. This is a valid mistake, the suggested correction is not right.

Psycho (1960)

Corrected entry: When Norman shows Marion to room number one he opens the door with the room key. After putting her coat and suitcase on the bed, he puts the room key in his jacket pocket. After showing her the room and inviting her to dinner, Norman turns and pulls the key out of the door and hands it to Marion. He never took the key out of his jacket pocket. And he didn't get both keys from the hook in the office, just one.

Correction: You're mistaken, please watch the scene again. When Norman opens the door we see that he leaves the motel's room key in the lock under the doorknob, note the key's dangling room tag. He does not place anything in his pocket, he only unbuttons his jacket as he walks to the window.

ER (1994)

Correction: Mark does not call Peter "Eriq", he calls him "Peter" - he says it quickly and the audio is a bit unclear with the sounds of street traffic, but if you turn up the volume, it is indeed Peter.

Correction: I agree with the correction, Greene does not say "Eriq" at all. Benton says, "Hey, Mark," to which Greene replies, "Peter" and then continues talking.

Super Grover

Correction: I heard Eriq while watching E.R. Via Hulu. This may have been changed for the DVD version.

Lindsay LeValley Mackey

I've seen the Hulu version and hear him say "Peter." The subtitles even confirm it.

Baywatch (2017)

Corrected entry: In the scene with the boat on fire Mitch says "When I say so, make a hard, left turn. 3, 2, 1, GO!", and they make a right hand turn. (00:40:30)

Correction: I agree with the correction, Mitch says, "Hard right turn."

Super Grover

Correction: He does say hard right turn. It sounds a little like left due to the other noise but its definitely a right turn he says to make.

My Cousin Vinny (1992)

Corrected entry: When Vinny and Lisa enter the cafe in the morning for their breakfast, there's a man in the background, sitting by the window, who keeps appearing and reappearing.

Correction: There are two sets of double windows, a total of four windows, on the wall to the left. The man you're referring to is seated beside the fourth window, which is the last window on that wall. In about six shots we cannot even see that fourth window or the area in front of it, where the man would be, because it's blocked from our view. However, in other shots when that area is actually visible to viewers, the man is there with his newspaper.

Guest of Honor - S2-E21

Corrected entry: Jay Novello gets the key to the city but he turns out to be a thief and breaks into the jewelry store. He leaves the store from the back door to an alley, only to have Andy there to capture him. Look at the back door. The hinges were on the outside. Anyone could take the hinges off from the outside of a jewelry store.

Correction: We're not actually shown enough of the back exit to determine if there is or isn't a second door, though we do see the inside door jamb is wide enough to accommodate a second door, which could be open behind Jay. Also, even if this wood door with its hinges on the outside is the only back door to the store, it's easy to believe in a town like Mayberry.

Super Grover

Thank you for the correction, but really if the hinges are on the outside then the door was put in backwards and it is shown, pause and see.

Peter Pan (1953)

Corrected entry: At the end of the film when the "Lost Boys" man the capstan there are four bars on the capstan, however only three boys man the bars, but as the bar turns with the boys pushing it there is no empty bar.

Correction: Just as the boys are about to begin walking around the capstan, we see the four bars manned by Cubby (the bear), Slightly (the fox), the Twins (the raccoons), and Tootles (the skunk), but just as Pan shouts to hoist the anchor, Cubby gets knocked in the head, falls down, and is stepped on as the capstan begins turning. It's at that moment we see Nibs (the rabbit) rush in at the left side of the screen to man the empty fourth bar which belonged to Cubby.

Corrected entry: When Willie and Shortie go to watch Indy and the thuggee fighting on the conveyor belt you see Willie pick up a canteen and lean up as though she is going to give it to Indy but in the next shot the canteen is back on the rock and she has to grab it again.

Correction: This does not occur "in the next shot." In the wideshot, as Shorty's rushing toward the camera while watching the Maharaja, we see Willie in the background lifting up the canister, though she does not "lean up as though she is going to give it to Indy." Then it cuts to two shots of Shorty and the Maharaja, and it's not until the third shot where we see the canister on the ground beside Willie, while she waited for the opportune moment to hand it up to Indy. No continuity issue.

Super Grover

Corrected entry: Indy's waiter friend gets shot and slumps over the table. He curiously disappears and reappears during the remainder of the the nightclub shootout scene. (00:08:00)

Lynette Carrington

Correction: In every shot where we actually see Lao Che's table, the body of Wu Han can indeed be seen.

Super Grover

Corrected entry: In the lava pit fight scene, after Chatter Lal gets pinned under the wheel used to lower and raise victims into the lava pit, subsequent shots show him on the ground by the wheel (first moving, then still). In later shots, he's gone. This can be seen best in the shot where Short Round runs over to the wheel to get the rucksack for Indiana Jones to put the stones in.

SteveQ

Correction: Chattar Lal does not vanish between shots. The mistake notes that "in later shots, he's gone", though that actually makes sense. We see Chattar Lal moving around on the floor and in a couple of following shots he's lying motionless, though that doesn't mean he's dead. So during the time where he's offscreen we can safely presume that Chattar Lal quickly realises he's been defeated, and thinks that since even Mola Ram has escaped, he decides to hurriedly scurry away like the rat that he is. There was a partially filmed deleted scene which had Chattar Lal getting up and attacking Indy, then falling onto the cage and into the lava below. Despite the obvious question viewers have about Chattar Lal's fate in the movie, there really isn't a continuity problem since he doesn't instantly disappear between shots.

Super Grover

Continuity mistake: When Indy tries to grab the antidote vial from the table, in the closeup just as the vial falls off the table the camera follows the vial as it lands in the empty area to the left of Lao Che's chair where Kao Kan's chair should be, but it's not, and the rug's edge with wood floor beside Lao Che's chair though it shouldn't be. Then Indy hits Kao Kan who is again seated closely to Lao Che's left, as he should be, and when Kao Kan falls backward we see the rug edge is nowhere near Lao Che's chair, also as it should be. (00:08:20)

Super Grover

Suggested correction: Actually it appears the vial falls to the left of Kao Ken's chair, not Lao Che's. It appears after Indy pierces the other guy with the shishkebab, Kao Ken, off camera, takes the vial and puts on his left side. Indy jumps on the table and after missing the vial he slides further and then elbows Kao Ken who is on the right side now. The vial is still on the left side of Kao Ken's chair when it's kicked onto the wooden floor.

lionhead

You're very much mistaken. Lao Che is wearing an embroidered dinner jacket and has a pinky ring on his left pinky, and Kao Kan's left hand is bandaged in gauze. After Indy skewers Chen, in the closeup of Indy's hand just as it knocks the vial off the table, it's Lao Che's hand (note the pinky ring, etc) that we see on the table next to Nurhachi's urn, the stack of money, and the vial. That is not Kao Kan's hand/arm, remember his left hand is bandaged. And as this closeup continues to pan down it follows the vial as it lands on the floor in the empty space where Kao Kan's chair should be, but it isn't.

Super Grover

Yep, you're right I see it. There are 2 shots of Indy trying to grab the vial off the table and the second one is followed through with the vial falling off it and that one is wrong. Alright.

Corrected entry: When Indy is fighting with the Thuggee guard, the Thuggee picks Indy up and is about to throw him into one of the mining trucks, you see Willie and Short Round hiding behind a pillar. When she says to Short Round "okay save him" you can see she is wearing a piece of jewellery on her forehead. About a minute later as she says her next line "what's the matter with him?" the piece of jewellery has gone. (01:29:15)

Will

Correction: After Willie tells Short Round to save Indy there are eight shots while she's offscreen, which gives Willie plenty of time to remove the head chain and toss it, much the same way Willie removes and tosses her skirt when she climbs into the mine cart.

The One With Phoebe's Uterus - S4-E11

Corrected entry: When Phoebe goes to visit her birth mother in Montauk, her mom says "I wish someone would've been there to tell me how terrible it is to give up babies". The scene cuts to a shot of Phoebe holding the puppy, revealing a side view of a stand-in, not the actress playing her mom.

Correction: It is indeed Teri Garr in the side shot, not a stand-in.

Super Grover

Corrected entry: Lao Che knocks some money off a big stack of bills at the nightclub table. In the next shot, the bills are once again neatly stacked.

Lynette Carrington

Correction: This does not occur "in the next shot" it actually occurs four shots later, and in that time offscreen the bills can simply be placed back on top of the stack of money.

Super Grover

Corrected entry: During the escape scenes from the mine through to the rope bridge, Willie has bare feet, but when hanging on the broken rope bridge against the cliff face above Mola Ram and Jones she is wearing sandals.

TheScorpion

Correction: Have another look at the scenes, because Willie is wearing thong sandals, that have very thin soles and straps, the entire time during those scenes. We can see the sandals in the sacrifice scene, when she tosses herself into the mine cart, when the water rushes out of the cave while she and Shorty are standing on the ledge her shoes are soaked, nearly falling off in the closeup, and when she and Shorty are at the bridge.

Peter Pan (1953)

Corrected entry: When the boys and Wendy are tied up on the ship, you can see Wendy is with them. In the next two shots when you see them Wendy has disappeared, but in the next shot she's there again.

Correction: Wendy doesn't disappear. Wendy, her brothers, and the Lost Boys are all tied to the large mast, and due to its cylindrical shape in some shots we don't see Wendy and Nibs at the right, or Cubby and one of the Twins at the left.
